The final battle had been fierce and bloody, but they had prevailed. The Saurians were gone.

The victory came at a heavy price, however.

She lay on the ground, her blonde head resting on his lap, her jumpsuit more red than purple. To the side, the rest of the team stood, grieving.

He looked into her eyes; the knowledge of what was about to happen clouded what was once clear as the skies above them.

Quietly he said, "You should sleep now."

"That’s sounds like a good idea," she whispered back.

She was still smiling when he closed her eyes.
